Game account security

Security of your Astro Empires account is vitally important. Keeping your account secure is vital to protecting your empire, personal details and even your guild. If your account details fall into the wrong hands untold damage can be done which we will be unable to reverse. This article will give you a basic overview to account security and how to protect your empire.

Fake websites and Emails:
You can receive emails pretending to be from Astro Empires. They pretend to be us in an attempt to have your ‘login’ via their webpage and steal your account details. This is also known as phishing.

Tips to identify a fake site or email:
* It asks for your account email and password (AE WILL NEVER ask you for your password through e-mail!)
* It links you to Astro Empires and asks you to login. No email from us will ever ask you to click a link and login to your ingame account.
* It comes from an email address which is NOT an official @astroempires.com address, but may look similar.
* Often they promise you will be banned if you do not provide the information demanded.

Scripts and add-ons:
There are scripts that some players or guilds will offer you to ‘improve’ Astro Empires. Scripts can be coded to steal account details and send it to another website or email address. We would recommend NEVER using a script with Astro Empires due to this risk and that many scripts violate Astro Empires Terms of Service (ToS).

Spyware and trojans:
Be aware of which applications you run and install on your computer. Some illicit applications can carry spyware, trojans or keyloggers which will be used to retrieve data from you, such as credit card information, which websites you visit and your passwords (from your AE account, your email, your home banking, etc...). Be sure to keep your antivirus updated at all times and regularly scan your computer with anti-spyware software such as SpyBot, Ad-Aware and Windows Defender and never install or run applications you don't trust, especially those available on non-reputable websites and torrents.

Sharing your account details:
We would recommend NEVER sharing your account details with another player.
Not only would this be in violation of Astro Empires Terms of Service (ToS – shared account) it is extremely dangerous and could lead to your account being compromised. Your account details are for you and you alone.

Public/shared computers:
When accessing your account in public/shared computers, make sure it doesn't save the password in the browser when you login to the game. To be sure of this it's recommendable that you clear all cookies and saved passwords before leaving that computer. In Internet Explorer you can find it under "Internet Options > Browsing History > Delete" and in Firefox under "Tools > Clear Private Data".

Using the same password in different sites:
Don't use the same password of your AE account in third party websites, such as your guild forum, etc... Someone with malicious intentions might collect your password from that website and easily login to your AE account.

What to do if your account is compromised:
If you fear that your account details have been taken by someone else the first thing you should do is login and change your password. If you are quick and able to do so this should secure your account as your account details will have been changed.

However if your account has already been taken over (and you cannot access it any longer) you should contact us via our support centre immediately. The sooner we get your email the sooner we can lock your account and recover the details for you.

There is a 2 to 4 days delay in your account being deleted so as long as you contact us quickly we can put a stop to a deletion and return the account to you. Please be aware however that if your bases or fleet are lost due to an incident like this there will be nothing that we can do to recover them for you.
